Puppy Feeding Notes Angel Rock puppies are offered about 1 to 2 cups of CANIDAE Lamb & Rice dry food every day. They eat less at first, more as they grow. From 4 wks old to about 12 wks I soak their dry food in water to soften, then mix in 1/4 can of Canidae canned (to make it taste great). Puppies up to six months old, require twice the amount of food as an adult dog and they should be fed *3 to 4 times a day. Puppies, six months to a year are fed twice daily. I use this amount as a guideline only – I give MORE if puppy can eat more. I gradually stop soaking the food as puppy shows the ability to chew better. By ten to twelve weeks the puppy should be eating NON-soaked DRY food with the ¼ can of wet food mixed in to make it palatable. Eventually, I discontinue the canned food and feed just the dry. Additional instructions for young puppies: I feed dinner early – before 5pm, then allow puppy to have plenty of outside play time. This helps avoid toileting accidents during the night. I do not give many snack-foods as they do not enhance health, and they can create a picky eater. I do not give rawhides; they are bad for digestion and rob the stomach of the enzymes. I use praise, strenuous games, cuddle-time & toys as treats instead. A SBT will likely live a longer and healthier life for it. AS PUPPY GROWS, we ADJUST THE AMOUNT of food ACCORDING TO DIRECTIONS ON BACK OF THE DOG FOOD BAG BY PUP’S WEIGHT and/or BY HOW MUCH HE OR SHE CAN EAT. I free-feed* pups, which means to give him/her as much as he/she wants to eat until about a year old or more. Holistic food has given us better coats, muscle tone, overall health, ears, etc. and by feeding holistic, your dog requires less food and produces less waste. I highly recommend Canidae Holistic or a raw diet (sometimes called BARF) as explained in detail in the book Natural Health for Dogs and Cats, by Dr. Pitcairn. We DO NOT feed a "barf" diet until approx. one year or older. If you change from one food to another, make the switch slowly to avoid stomach upset. At the top here are photos of her Right when I got her - she was almost 2 years old. Then below that are photos of her after I had owned her for three or four months and been feeding her a new, holistic diet. She's a small dog, about 14 inches tall.
